After months of research, I’ve worked out the top 10 tools I should buy first for my kids to assemble furniture, hang stuff on walls, and do small projects and mapped out a larger toolkit with everything they need to be independent. On the utility knife, I love my Toughbuilt cutter cause it flips so that the blade can be used as a scraper. I find myself using it as a scrapper much more often than as a box cutter.
Go for harbor freight and you can make this much cheaper.
Great video I can’t think of anything else that’s like necessary every project but I would agree with you the two things that like I never used to think for that big but like I’ll use everything now would be the bed, needle, nose pliers, and the zip ties……Lifesavers
Such a kindness for your kids. My dad left a bag of tools, an old circular saw and drill at my first townhome I got at 19. When he was late one day while we were framing out a new wall and drywalling the lower level, I got started without him and was cutting a 2×4 when he arrived. He barely stopped the car before jumping out in alarm but I had my eye & hearing protection on, tucked in my shirt and followed all his safety rules he’d taught me as his helper all those years. By the time he ran to me he realized I had been paying attention and laughed at himself as he got to me. We both had a good laugh and he liked telling the story. It reminded me of when I was a little girl and he’d brag that I could spot man-coverage or a 4-2 defense on Sunday and was named prima ballerina at my age group at the conservatory. He never made me feel like I wasn’t “supposed to” like woodworking or football or other male-oriented things or that I couldn’t be successful at anything that my brother could.
Long story short I meant to say it’s awesome that you said you’re making these kits for your kids and not just your sons. That’s a mindset I wish every dad models for their children. So excellent job! 😊 ~Twiggy
